Comares Open Access is an initiative by Editorial Comares, born out of the conviction that its status as a commercial company is not incompatible with offering open access to certain publications.
To this end, the platform, hosted at accesoabiertocomares.com, contains books in various formats so that certain research works that pass the peer-review process are accessible free of charge on the internet.
The publishers needed a new publishing platform, with a more modern and attractive design, without losing their identity or, of course, any of the works already published.
The challenge
As well as creating a bespoke design, new features had to be incorporated:
• Linking to the print sales platform.
• Providing researchers with statistics on the viewing and downloading of works.
Solution
A new bespoke design was created for the OMP platform, maintaining its identity and reflecting its content. All the required new features were also implemented. In addition, all historical content from the publications was migrated, and the publishing house’s staff were provided with training on this open-source software platform.
